WILLIAM ROUSE Elected intendant September 12, 1808, succeeding Benjamin Boyd. Re-elected September 21, 1809. Succeeded by Thomas McCalla, September 1810. Born 1756 in Yorkshire, England, died June 15, 1829. Member of First Baptist Church, buried at Magnolia Cemetery. Son of Eli Rouse and Martha Asquith, married Mary Martha Stuart. Revolutionary War service in Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina; imprisoned by British; settled in Charleston 1783. Commissioned officer in state militia, 1794, promoted to major and lieutenant colonel. Tanner and leather manufacturer. Represented St. Philip's and St. Michael's parishes in State House during five General Assemblies, 1806-1809 and 1820-1835, and in State Senate 1812-1815. Bailey, N. Louise, Mary L.
